![]() But in the case of NieR, instead of being a title that either not many know, or it isn't as widely regarded. I do feel like it's a bit hard to really rate NieR as an anime product, when as per normal, Game adaptations are normally hit or miss. My global rating and opinion of it might change in the future because it's still airing. Guess this turned out more like a review of the game and not just where the anime is for now, but oh well. NieR's CGI looked rough in some scenes, but that was really just because of the detailed mecha models and the shading, but we are going to see less of these in the future so it's fine and shouldn't be the subject of hard criticism. CSM had great CGI (a lot better than NieR: Automata) AND great 2d animation, but people still found a way to brag about it. The adaptation also has anime specials only based off live concerts of the game and such.Īs for the visuals they're pretty enjoyable, unlike what others might say, but we all know how toxic this community is and animation is always the subject of criticism for a lot of popular new anime. ![]() The opening and ending are amazing and I like how they didn't change the game's OSTs and kept them intact in this adaptation. I'd recommand just playing the game really you'll be amazed (and don't you forget Replicant!) because the fighting scenes, action and felt emotions are really meant to be experienced first hand and not as spectator, but if you can't or dont want to, you're definitely missing out. It's sad how it gets overshadowed by its 2017 sequel. I just hope NieR Replicant gets an anime adaptation next because it's almost as amazing as NieR: Automata. It has beautiful narrative style and meaning with very well written characters that will get you attached to them (9S for me personally). The story gets very tragic at some point (by the beginning of C route for those who have played it). It makes you wonder what it really means to be human, what are the things humans do or have that makes them human and that the androids and machines lack, why do they kill machines if the two are fundamentally the same, Are those really emotions that the machines are expressing, or are they just just imitations? This masterpiece is the ultimate humanist fable. Played NieR: Automata and NieR Replicant 2 years ago and I have to say this looks amazing. I'll probably be back to update this again once this anime is finished (by the looks of it, probably in 2053 or something). ![]() So if you want to take your time and read it, go ahead, but do not expect too much from it (it's very shabby). You'll be amazed by how much of a masterpiece it is.Įverything I wrote till now was actually an update, and my old review is just down bellow. So I really do not recommend this anime to anyone and it might just make you not want to play the game after watching it. But was that an attempt to make it better, or actually just an attempt to fill this anime to make it longer and squeeze some extra money? The other newly added ideas, scenes, characters and such were also just a failed attempt to try and make the adaptation better. However, the execution was horrible and the story didn't respect the author's original intentions. Now, this does have beautiful and symphonic soundtrack that is many's favorite, which is not new to the series, outstandingly immersive world building and amazing story. Heck, you might even never forget it because it is so forgettable and such a controversy of an adaptation. The first 3 episodes were very promising and did follow the original source material fairly well (except for some heavy production issues that can not be overlooked), but what came afterwards just made it collapse into yet another forgettable anime that you would just forget a few days after watching. Between the low production value and the multiple cases of the show being put on hiatus, this has been a real pain to watch and to even keep up with, to the point where anybody sane would just decide to drop it. But this NieR adaptation was really a disappointment both to NieR fans and to new comers alike.įor the moment NieR: Automata Ver1.1a has felt more like a messy mash-up than an actual continuous story. manages to create the best adaptations ever like 86 and Love is War for example, yet also manages to create the worst ones (Seven Deadly Sins). This is really horrendous even for A-1 Pictures. But this particular adaptation really made me question: What the hell was going on with the studio?Īfter further watching and keeping up with the anime (episode 8 for now), my golabal rating has drastically dropped. What's worst than seeing your favorite series get turned into a sorry excuse of an adaptation? Some hated studio Deen's 2006 Fate/stay night, others the 2016 remake of Berserk (that I still don't have the courage to watch), Tsukihime, Tokyo Ghoul, The Seven Deadly Sins and so on. Yet another more or less failed adaptation of an amazing mother series.
